Parksdale II

Happy Friday everyone!  Today is a nice and sunny day so the children and I are out enjoying the sun in the shade.  Today we're dancing to Just Dance.  Just Dance is a video based game that the children can follow with age/level appropriate steps from a wii game console.  It's a good way to do exercise and get your body fit.  I try to incorporate physical fitness activities throughout the week as it helps with blood flow, builds up cardio and helps with stress.  With so many options available I would like to encourage everyone to start exercising even if its a short walk around the block.

Cottonwood Creek

Hi from Cottonwood Creek,

We went all out decorating for St. Patties day!  It was fun because whenever a holiday approaches the children go all hands on deck to get the room looking festive!!  The children have also been really good about bringing in their homework assignments for review and assistance.  Speaking about homework, the children have also been practicing their writing skills...my goal with school work is to try and make it enjoyable.  Although homework is not always fun, anything I can do as the after school coordinator to help make it more understandable and digestible, the better.  So with their writing skills, I've been having the children color/make a picture and then create a story around the picture they've colored.  I know its not the most innovative idea but it does get the job done and the children seem to enjoy sharing their creativity to the rest of the group. We still have the story land wall where I place the stories up for all to see.  All is running smooth here and we already have transitioned into decorating for EASTER!  I as well as the children are very exited for this holiday!  More crafts and photos to follow soon!

Lincoln Plaza

Hello everyone,

Summer is beginning to approach us and this year we plan on staying cool.  Spring is here and its already begining to feel like summer.  With that in mind the children and I here at the Plaza are taking full advantage of this beautiful weather by incorporating fun physical fitness activities outside.  On another note, its baseball season and so many of my students will showcase their team spirit by creating an art project of their favorite baseball team.  We will soon be making homemade ice-cream.  Yes, I said it ice cream!!!  I scream, you scream, we all scream...ah you know the rest :-)  I cant wait to take pictures and show everyone what awesome arts and crafts we have begun do here at the after school program.  Until next time...

Rancho Lindo

This weeks agenda in the after school program at Rancho Lindo will involve students working on their homework for about 30 min and reading for 15 min throughout the week.  Reading and working on homework is key to getting good grades.  Although I make time for physical fitness activities and arts and crafts, first comes homework.  Some of the fun arts and crafts activities I'm planning will involve making a bird house from a milk carton...for this exercise the children will be using different colored paints and bird seed.  Our fun schedule will also involve them playing ping pong, rhythmic dancing from youtube incorporating songs on/from the wii game system and finally bringing back Friday movie day.  I like to throw-in not only fun but educational movies and then discuss different themes, character roles and having the children critically think about the outcome of the movie.  Sometimes they don't even realize that they're learning.  Till next time have fun learning...

Rolling Hills

Hello Everyone,

Here at Rolling Hills in the bustling metropolis of Newman, CA we are getting started with our Easter arts and crafts.  We all have so many ideas we want to put together.  Easter is one of my favorite holidays of the year as I enjoy seeing all those different colors on the grass and our children excited to put cool stuff into their baskets.  We are also excited for SUMMER!!!  The hot weather is around the corner so we'll need to be careful out there and stay hydrated.  Our children here at the complex are excited to join in on some fun filled physical competition...we have a game of basketball and soccer where boys vs girls will take place.  Did I mention we'll also have an ice cream party for the winners and of course the losers, everyone gets to partake.  Everyone is invited!!! Yea!!!  It's important to take advantage of this beautiful weather so we'll be engaging in more physical fitness activities taking full advantage of our complex play ground in the Spring time. We hope to post some pictures later in the month of our children out in the sun...Have a nice day everyone!
