Cottonwood Creek

This activity will refresh the children’s minds on how to research information on the computer and ask for help if they do not understand how to do it.  Since it is something the children like, I think it will make this activity more interesting for them. Each child will be researching something different and will share it with others once it is complete.

Directions:

Write 3 items that you like next to the bullets. Next answer the questions 1-3 on the best of your knowledge. Then do a small research on your questions 1-3, make sure if your answer is wrong add the correct answer on your page. Last step ask any questions that you have based on your research and give an answer.

Sunrise Villa

This week at Sunrise Villa I had the students make owls and write in their summer journals, in which the topic was "If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be and why?"  The students had a lot of fun with this activity because they like being hands on with their crafts, they also got to think of a lot of neat animals in which they would transform into if they could!!

Rolling Hills

Summer fun for the Students at Rolling Hills is always a "Get Wet Day". We pull out the hose, buckets and sponges - fill them and have some incredible relay races. This year was no exception. We included a few items from our sport equipment to make it a bit more exciting.

This year the Students came up with their own relay's and it was memorable! They especially like getting the after school coordinator VERY wet.

This year we added to our supplies some 'water sticks and squirt guns'. We always set some safety rules. If you know your Students then you will know what rules are best for them. We keep it FUN and SIMPLE and ALWAYS end the day enjoying Popsicles while wrapped in our towels! This is a good activity to really get to know your Students - nothing but SMILES!

Cottonwood Creek

Hello everyone, here are some pictures of our Zoo. The kids said it tastes delicious and fantastic and great! We learned that in order to have it stand we needed 2 more pretzel sticks, 4 more mini marshmallows and extra creamy peanut butter. This experience was a success.

Goshen Village II

This week the kids had to draw what they like the most in Goshen Village II.
They also enjoy playing the game cool math in the computer.

Rolling Hills

If you have a great imagination then you would have taken a "Magic Carpet Ride" with the Students at Rolling Hills. For this summertime activity everyone sat on carpet squares in a variety of colors which included a treat for their tongues. When they all arrived for their "ride" the were taught a summer poem about the sun. Then all the Students had the opportunity to memorized the following poem:

It's Nice to Know

It's nice to know, when I'm in bed,
That across the world
It's day instead-

And children there are having fun,
While it's their turn
To have the sun.

When they repeated it by heart they got another individual Jolly Rancher treat. Several Students were very jolly and took to memorizing as quickly as possible - however - it had to be word perfect and they only got 3 tries. This made it challenging and fun. There was a reluctant Student however with some encouragement and help from fellow friends went on to memorize the poem. Then everyone took to the art tables and used crayons, magic markers and pastels to create their "sun" for the summer. It was a great activity that you may want to do. The artwork hangs in the Community Room at Rolling Hills for everyone to see!

This Wednesday will be "Get Wet Wednesday" at Rolling Hills.   Having water fun outside!

Joke of the Day

Q: What color is a Burp?

A: Burple.

Lincoln Plaza

Hello After School Coordinators,

Today is Friday July 20th and here at the Lincoln Plaza we are finishing up our Animal Trains along with our Trojan Horses. Our younger grades are begining their new craft which is a FishBowl Handprint craft. Since Kinder and 1st grade always does some art involving their handprint why not change it up and have thier print be a fish in a bowl.

As the olympic games approach us we are begining to do art activities that have do do with the olympic games. Since they do begin on the 25th the students are to do an olympic torch along with the olimpic color and rings, and finally the students are going to chose two countries that are competing in the olympics and are to do that countries flag.

Sand Creek

The kids watched Aladdin.  After the movie I talked to the kids on how people can be good and bad and how they learn from their mistakes? And also how Aladdin acted selfish and unselfish throughout the movie!

Good learning lessons!

Joke of the Day

1) Doctor, Doctor you have to help me out!
Certainly, which way did you come in?

2) Knock Knock!
Who's there?
Cash!
Cash who?
No thanks, but I'd like some peanuts!

3) WHY DID CINDERELLA GET KICKED OUT OFF THE SOFTBALL TEAM?

Because she ran away from the BALL.

4) Why couldn't Dracula's wife get to sleep?

................................because of his coffin!

Sunrise Villa

At Sunrise Villa/ Villa Hermosa, we like to play BINGO! Each student selected a card and shared chips with their partners to play along! I, along with a student helper, would callout the Bingo numbers and each student would put a chip in that place if they had it.

Making the cards is quite simple and you can find Bingo card generators online; it was quick and easy, but most of all the students really enjoyed their prizes!

Washington Plaza

Hello, I hope everyone is having a great summer!

I'm sure all of you have noticed kids love to sing their favorite songs and some even dance!  So for the next week I'm having the kids pick a song of their choice, print the lyrics and do their best to memorize the song.

I allowed the kids to pair up if they would like. For practice I'm pulling the kids one by one and giving them little tips. Most of them want to sing with a low shy voice but I'm doing my best to get their loud powerful voices out.

If this talent show turns out well, I'm thinking of making this a monthly thing since there is so much music out there kids always have a new favorite song.

One more thing, when I first proposed this some of the kids were reluctant but the kids made a deal with me.

They want me to sing first! With my bad singing I know they will regret it but wish me luck!

Parksdale

Here's a picture of one of my sixth graders working on an art project. The sixth graders are drawing pictures to decorate their classroom. Some of them take their pictures home to their parents. This gives the kids time to socialize with their classmates.

Rolling Hills

"Highlights from the Hills"

July is a great time to celebrate using Red, White and Blue. This summer at Rolling Hills we have a theme -"In the Good Old Summertime". Our activities tie into the theme.

Anything to do with food or cooking the Students love it! One of the fun things the Students have really enjoyed is making their own summer "freezy pops".

To make these patriotic pops the following is needed:
red- juice or punch
white - vanilla pudding and thawed cool whip topping (equal portions as needed)
blue - sports drink
paper cups - small drinking cups (bathroom size)
craft sticks
mixing bowl

For color select (red and blue) a nice flavor of punch, juice, sports drinks or soda. You can even use Koolaide. In a paper cup pour 1/3 of your first layer of RED and FREEZE. Then using equal portions of vanilla pudding and cool whip - mix together (white). Put a couple of dollops in each cup and put the stick into it...then FREEZE. Lastly pour the BLUE drink over and FREEZE.

This works best if you pre-make everything and then demonstrate it having the Students do the steps. Every one likes mixing, pouring and dolloping. What is made during the demonstration is used at another time and the Students will anticipate when they will get them.

"Ta Da!" - Happy Students who can make these on their own.

Villa De Guadalupe

The kids here at Villa De Guadalupe like to practice on getting better with their math, so I found this website, you choose their grade level. IT'S ONLY a limited time but they give you up to 25 questions to work on.   Click on the link below...have fun!

Math for the left and right brain

Lincoln Plaza

"So, let us not be blind to our differences--but let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal."

-John F. Kennedy

Goshen Village I

Here are the pictures from Goshen Village I - Some of these were a little hard for some of the younger children; I will do something easier with them.

I read some of The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein to the younger children and asked them what they learned from it. They told me, "The tree grows bigger and bigger. They don't buy something. Asked if trees have money?"

A couple of the older ones told me a little biography about Justin Beiber. " He started at 2 playing drums. He started to become famous at 13. Scooter made him famous. He had a crush on Beyonance, all his songs are about girls.

Parksdale

Good Afternoon After School Coordinators,

I'm glad to say that I'm the After School Coornator of 16 kids here at Parksdale Village Apartments In Madera CA.

We have a weekly schedule. We do different activities Monday- Friday. Today is Tuesday 7/17/2012, and we are doing outside activities. We have 3 different Teams, with different activities.

The Winning Team gets 1 day of access to the Computer Lab. This gives the students a chance to get to compete with the rest of their classmates.

Here is a picture of some of the things we do in the computer. In this picture we have one of the student doing a Math game. This not only helps them to learned math but it also helps them to get to know how to use and have access to a computer.

This is another picture of one of the student doing Math. This is a good way for them to get practice in
Math. They take a 30 minutes math test and quiz. The kids really injoy it.

Goshen Village II

Hello! Last week and this week the kids from Goshen Village II are making houses of sticks that look like there apartment using the same colors of there apartment. The kids in Goshen Village II are very happy to live here in the property and have fun working in this project.

Biola Village

Hi guys, well here at Biola Village we are proud to announce that we are saving up money to buy our own Wii system, we are going to be selling candy here in the apartments. Our goal is to get up to $200 dollars. This way kids will learn TEAM WORK, HOW TO SAVE UP MONEY, LEADERSHIP & ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS. We also have cooking classes every Friday, we come up with different fun recipes like brownies, cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, lemonades, easy recipes that kids enjoy. After we’re done doing the tasting we watch a movie.

The kids here at the Biola Village are well behaved and are always up to try new games or different activities with the other kids. On Wednesdays the girls get 30 minutes either to do their nails, hair, while they listen to music. The boys get to play 30 minutes too playing PS2.

Another thing we are focusing on this week is on decorating our new calendar for next Month. All the kids get to decorate the Month Calendar. We’ve been doing this since April, every month we planned out activities and set new goals for the coming month. A NEW thing I just come up with are 10 min COMPUTER PASSES, now to win one of the computer passes the kids must show TEAM WORK, PARTICIPATE ON NEW ACTIVITIES, this way the kids will win the computer privileges.

Cottonwood Creek

I would like to show you our Zooriffic Food Table we are going to be working on before we make our own Zoos. This will help the children understand what is in their ingredients they will be using. I will see if they need more help understanding the fats, carbs, sugar, and sodium. I will explain and answer their questions if they have any.

Picture of table to come.

Sunrise Villa

For the summer time I have had dress up days on Fridays, on this ocassion we had a BEACH DAY so the students were able to bring their sunglasses, sandals as well as their beach hats.

To fit the theme, I decided to have beach themed crafts, such as the jelly fish that are in the picture. Also, I had several color the coloring pages I printed and had them write in their summer journals (Prompt: "What is the funnest thing you have done all summer?").

Overall the students enjoy our themed Fridays, so I try to incorporate educational activities as well!

Rancho Lindo

first week... the students here at rancho lindo had a week to work on a research paper each of them had to choose a president of the U.S.A.. the info that they were looking  for is  birthday - place , married, childrens, which number president he was ,when he was elected how many terms..how he died or if he still lives... i believe that  each  of  them learned something diffent on each president..ex..dad and son BUSH  were elected presidents and  John F. Kennedy. that also a relative was also running for president. etc

second week....also a research paper on a state...they had to look for population of the state. .it became what number of state  (ex..one Utah 45 state) ...flower, animal ,bird, flag and the capital and the governor and seal of that state... they got to learn that every state is different then California.. YES ..every one want to do there research in our beautiful state California .. but no one did...

third week which was last week... it was their choice on their favorite player of any sport... they had no problem with this. They knew what info to  look for, but I also included the name of the team, age, player education, position he plays and the number he is.... the best part of all was when it came to the players annual or yearly gross...they couldnt believe how much they make. they added a picture of the player.

our next topic will be the University of there choice..see how much info they could get out of this...

Lincoln Plaza

Good Afternoon Coordinators,

Here at the Lincoln Plaza we are working on many arts and crafts. This week we are working on an animal train, however, for my upper grades I have challenged them with putting all their animals on their train with so many cars added to the train.

We are also currently working on a Trojan Horse, I will be giving them a small lecture on this horse and why it is very famous to the Greeks. We are still doing the wii challenge and so far it seems like the girls are ahead by one win over the boys. The wii challenge not only helps them with their physical activity but at the same time it helps the younger grades develop excellent leadership skill and the concept of team work. This week our primarily focus is respect.

Movie time at Villa Del Rey

We are planning on watching a movie on Wednesday here at Villa Del Rey.
