Cottonwood Creek

Hello!

These past couple of weeks have been busy!  Last week was the children's first week back to school. On the first day back I wanted to hear all about it and the kids were so willing to share and were exited to see all their friends and meet their new teachers.

For our activity, I printed a sheet with a blank backpack.  I suggested a few questions on the board and let the kids answer and color the sheet.  We went around and shared all about the new teachers and new classmates and about what they were expecting this new school year.  That same week I thought it would be a good time to go over healthy snacks and food they could have when they were in a rush to get to school or when they came home...so I printed a couple of pages and the children and I wrote as many health snacks we could think of using the things depicted on the coloring pages.

It was a good exercise because I have seen the kids carrying water and fruit or yogurt instead of the regular chips they so often reach for.  We've been trying to concentrate hard on the power play campaign so the older kids and I went over a slide show presentation titled "California dreamin."  While reviewing the slide show presentation, we played a game where if they had ever done the activity being discussed on the slide show they would mark a "yes" on a piece of paper.  For example, if the slide show showed skiing and they had been skiing before they would put a yes on a piece of paper at the end of the slide show we added up how many activities each one did and we are going to try to achieve all the activities shown on that slide show...whoever does all the activities first gets a prize!  We will keep you updated as to when someone gets all the activities done.  For now have a good productive week!

Villa De Guadalupe

Hello Everyone,

Look at what our class of AWESOME kids at Villa De Guadalupe have done:-)

The kids used the "Dress Yourself Paper People" to create some fun and memorable art work. They cut out the clothes, glued them on and colored the people letting their imaginations guide them.

After a wonderful summer of arts and crafts in the computer lab it's back to school time.

Have a great year everyone!!!

Cottonwood Creek

Greetings from Cottonwood Creek!

After a few rough personal weeks for me, I am back to Cottonwood Creek!

We had a great week full of fun things to do. The first day back I wanted to ease into it, so we watched "Kung Fu Panda."  The kids loved the movie. So, I looked at the special features that the movie had and found a few activities related to the movie.  I had the kids chose what they wanted to work on from the activities and they choose to make a Chinese lantern. I put the children in pairs because it was a little advanced for them.  It took us a couple of days and a few modifications, but they did their best. I even tried to do some Chinese writing for the kids.

The older kids are gearing up for the new school year, so we decided to practice our goal setting.  We also went a little further and made a vision board, that way the kids can stay motivated and remind themselves  of the goals they set for themselves this school year.

Lincoln Plaza

Hello Everyone,

Here at Lincoln Plaza we have all been on vacation. However, before we left for vacation we had been working on some logos of different sports teams, out of felt. Each student's was very exciting because they got to show off their teams and show everyone how excited they are for the next sports season.

Upon returning from vacation we began to do some Disney and some Dr. Seuss activities. However, something new I came up with this time was giving the students an option of coming up with some ideas of activities they would like to do ranging from art to science. More projects are to come so get ready for our Lincoln Plaza activities and for our eagerness to learn!

Parksdale Village II

Hello Everyone,

Friday was fun friday at Parksdale village II.  Like every Friday the kids chose what they wanted to do and they chose to make their own Ice Cream Strawberry Cheesecake. It's very easy to make all you need is:
  • Strawberry Ice cream
  • cheesecake filling
  • waffle cones
That's how easy it was and yummy too.

Hope you enjoy your own Ice Cream Strawberry Cheesecakes at home!

Biola Village

Hello Everyone!

Today was Ruby’s Birthday.  Ruby is one of the girls that attends our After School Program. She’s also new here in Biola Village, so we decided to throw her a surprise party; something small, but hey it's the thought that counts right?

I set up a couple different activities for all the children, that way they won’t feel left out. We had pizza, homemade rice krispies, arts and crafts, and Xbox 360.  WOW!!!

I’m so proud of the kids, they have been so thoughtful and good :-)
