Casitas Del Sol

In September ,Casitias del Sol Community Center focused on Community Friendship building.  Being it's back to school we read the book "Rainbow Fish" and compared it to the kids' daily lives in school.  For example, when they meet new kids who may look or speak different. We also discussed the importance of treating others as you would like to be treated.

We discussed clothes, shoes, looks, and so forth. We then discussed how people's feeling can get hurt by selfish behavior.  Some kids may end up like the rainbow fish, with no friends to play with, if they think they are better than other people.

We worked on an entire unit that focused on readings from "Rainbow Fish."  We then filled in questions sheets, word scrabble, math word problems, writing short senstences, mazes, connect the dots, coloring, and matching flash card games (print two copies for this game), all related to the book of course.

As our final group project, I used an overhead projector and we blew up the coloring page and placed scales on the fish, these scales mentioned traits that the kids look for in friends.
