Toy Story 4 Arts & Crafts Activity @Sunrise Villa

The 2019 Summer has been really warm here in Wasco, with temperatures rising up to 110 degrees. To combat this heat, we decided bring one of Toy Story 4's new characters (Forky), to life here at Sunrise Villa. The kids got really creative and made some amazing Forkys together in the community center. It was important for us to do this activity indoors, so our young residents knew they could also have fun indoors and expand on their arts and crafts skills. Hello everyone,

I decided to focus on sports for this month's project because sports are coming around these upcoming months including the community recreation and school sports. Mostly all the children here play sports such as soccer, football, cheer, etc and are also sport fans.

On that note, I decided to have the kids decorate drawstring bags with their favorite sport. Once everyone’s bag was ready, they all shared their favorite sport with the rest of the children.  Go Team!

Hello everyone,

Now that the computer lab is open again here at Sunrise Villa, the children came to a decision to decorate the room with Minion characters with black, yellow, and blue colors as a theme. The children made minions for wall decorations as well. Since back to school is right around the corner, they also made pencil pouches and decorated them. I will keep updated with pictures of other fun things we do throughout the school year.

Sunrise Villa

Hello everyone,

Ever since I came to Sunrise Villa, all the children have been super excited because they are now able to use the computers.  They love having access to our awesome computers.  I try and find a balance each and everyday to provide fun, educational activities for them even though they are more interested in the computer lab i.e. computers.  Here's a quick snapshot about what we have been doing as of recent.  During the month of March some of us made four leaf clovers with tissue paper and Easter baskets out of construction paper.  During April I had a movie day and we all watched 'Big Hero 6," I highly recommend it.   We also drew and colored eggs and flowers.  In May, I gave the children little wooden boxes so they could paint and decorate them for Mother's Day.  I also took out the watercolors....their creativity shined through as they would paint anything and everything that would come to their minds.  Even though it's summertime, let's stay active and keep those brains sharp!

Hello everyone,

This last month at Sunrise Villa has been great.  The children have been engaged with their arts and crafts as well as our physical fitness activities...for their participation, I've rewarded them with yummy candy.  Don't forget to brush those teeth kids.  We had some jump rope days a couple of weeks ago...it really is important to stay active and be fit!  We have also made crafts to decorate the room for the start of the school year.  We made tie dye glitter apples and some funky pencils.  The children have also been drawing their own pictures to put up on the wall as well.  Last but not least the children enjoy winning prizes when we play bingo.  Start of the year, it's time to concentrate on getting good grades.  I make sure to have each child work on homework before they get on the computer...I know that computer time is fun and educational but homework comes first.  Here's to a successful school year!!!

Hello everyone!!!

The past few weeks at Sunrise Villa have been a blast!  The children are having a great time with their arts and crafts...it just seems that when one holiday is over, another one is right around the corner to take its place.  For Easter, the kids crafted cut out eggs which they painted and took home to mom and dad.  We also made a do it yourself bath soak for Mother’s Day which they put in their own hand made gift boxes and covered them with glitter!  The project was complete when they made a beautiful card for their mom to go with it.  They can’t wait for the next fun project which brings us to Father's Day!

Recently the students and I have been redecorating the computer lab to a Fall like atmosphere.  I've also been focusing on making them engage in coloring so that they can enroll in AWI's coloring contest.  Hope we win.  Enjoy the pictures:-)

Here's some of the crafts Sunrise Villa worked on in the past week!  For Valentine's Day the students of Sunrise Villa/Villa Hermosa worked on really cool arts and crafts! They made coupons for loved ones as well as decorated their own cupcake!

In the spirit of the Martin Luther King holiday, the students at Sunrise Villa/ Villa Hermosa wrote mini versions of their own "I have a dream..." speech.  All of the students were very creative in their speeches as well as drawing awesome pictures that represented their speeches.  I'm very proud of them!  Go Civil Rights!

For the past few weeks we have been getting in the Christmas spirit by coloring and doing winter crafts!  Students are super excited about Christmas as well as the upcoming winter vacation which is coming up next week....Yea Winter Vacation!!!

Student's here at Sunrise Villa/ Villa Hermosa are getting ready for winter time and what better way than by making penguins! The students got really creative when working with this craft that each student made them with their own style!

Here are some Thanksgiving crafts our site did!

This Thanksgiving, our site decided to make up a fall tree with different reasons as to what we were are thankful for as leaves.  The students were very creative in what they wrote, everything ranging from "I'm thankful for my mom" to "I'm thankful for all the things I have in my life."  All the leaves were then placed on the tree for everyone to enjoy :)

The past week we had our Fall Celebration.  The students enjoyed watching a movie as they ate snacks! They also worked on making pumpkins!  Happy Halloween!

This week we had the students make a felt fish tank, they got to decorate different underwater animals as they learned about sea life.  We also got to hang it up on our door for everyone in the apartment complexes to see :)

I also handed out some prizes for those who were able to recall some of the details regarding this project.  Lots O' Fun in Learning!

This week at Sunrise Villa, we worked on elephants.  The students got very creative when decorating them, so much so that they wanted to take them right away to show their parents!

      We had a few craft activities the past week here at Sunrise Villa! One of them was going through the life cycle of a butterfly. The students were able to learn how butterflies transform from caterpillars into beautiful butterflies; we went over the living conditions they live in as well as the foods they might eat. 

      The students really liked learning and sharing their ideas with the rest of the group. The second craft we made were "Hand Masks," the students were able to get creative with making their own masks, they also learned that following directions is very important!

This week at Sunrise Villa I had the students make owls and write in their summer journals, in which the topic was "If you could be any animal in the world, what would you be and why?"  The students had a lot of fun with this activity because they like being hands on with their crafts, they also got to think of a lot of neat animals in which they would transform into if they could!!

At Sunrise Villa/ Villa Hermosa, we like to play BINGO! Each student selected a card and shared chips with their partners to play along! I, along with a student helper, would callout the Bingo numbers and each student would put a chip in that place if they had it.

Making the cards is quite simple and you can find Bingo card generators online; it was quick and easy, but most of all the students really enjoyed their prizes!

For the summer time I have had dress up days on Fridays, on this ocassion we had a BEACH DAY so the students were able to bring their sunglasses, sandals as well as their beach hats.


To fit the theme, I decided to have beach themed crafts, such as the jelly fish that are in the picture. Also, I had several color the coloring pages I printed and had them write in their summer journals (Prompt: "What is the funnest thing you have done all summer?").

Overall the students enjoy our themed Fridays, so I try to incorporate educational activities as well!
