Cottonwood Creek

Hello to one and all!!!

Hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween! For the past few weeks we have been doing almost anything and everything Halloween...activities and crafts and it has been contest central around here!!  To start with, we had a door contest.  It was a collective project so the kids had to work in teams.  Little kids vs. big kids was the theme...it was really fun because the students got into it and tried their hardest to be the winner.  I promised the team who won a prize but since they were both great I bought them glow in the dark sticks so that they could wear on Halloween night and be more visible.  Gotta be safe out there!  The next little art project we did was the "trick or treat" bag where they got to decorate a brown paper bag whichever way they liked.

I thought it would be more fun than just buying regular bags from the store and putting their candy inside...the kids loved the idea so it was a fun and engaging project.  A couple of days before Halloween I printed some Halloween safety coloring pages and got a quiz page from the McGruff the crime dog website...it has so many helpful rules and tips on how to be safe on Halloween.  Each student colored a page and then at the end shared what they had learned from that page with the rest of the children.  Last but not least, for our Fall festival we had a costume/Halloween party!  It was on Friday instead of Thursday because the children decided not to come on Thursday so they could get two hours extra on Friday, more time to celebrate Halloween!!!

It also gave us time to watch an entire movie as well as play games like bingo...the parents were also kind enough to send different treats with the children so they could eat while enjoying the party.  The children really enjoyed what I had for each of them in my bag of tricks.  In a brown paper/sack bag I put a little bag of chips, a juice and a pencil.  It couldn't have been a Halloween party without a candy bag which I also put together!  It was worth it because the children had been on their best behavior all month!  You know how hard that can be sometimes!  Kidding!  Well all jokes aside, it was a great party and fun month over all!  I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!  Can't wait to see what's in store for this month!
