Hello to all the wonderful coordinators!
Our Mother's Day
project was a hit! I/we hope you enjoy!
Before I go into detail about how we got to the final product I want to share
with all, that the children had a fun time assisting me in putting the "flower
pots" together. First off this project was very time consuming because I
had to personally sit with each individual child and piece by piece glue the
foam to the newspaper and cup flower pot. The reason I could only have one
child with me at a time was due to the hot glue gun for obvious safety reasons. I will try to explain to you all
the materials required and all the steps that it took to put this wonderful
project together.
The materials used were:
- colored foam (to cut into strips)
- disposable foam or paper cups (to serve as the pots)
- news paper to weigh down the cups
- hot glue gun
- colored tissue paper to wrap the flower pot in
I found that this project, all though very pretty and colorful was inexpensive and easy to make. To begin we pack in as much newspaper
as we can into the Styrofoam cup. This is our base and will provide weight so that when we start gluing
the flowers at the top it doesn't become top heavy and tip over...we need a balance here. When you reach about half
way through the cup, crumple up newspaper in the shape of a ball and hot
glue the rim of the cup to secure the newspaper onto the cup. Next take the strips of colored foam and fold in half, holding it secure...cut
small little slits onto the folded part of the foam. It should look fringe
like...then after you have gotten all the way through the pieces of foam, take
one side and start coiling and rolling it up.
Once its all rolled up, the bottom
of the "flower" has to be hot glued onto the newspaper dome. That is
all there really is to it, just repeat these steps until you have filled
the whole top of the dome. The next thing to make are the leaves...just create leaves out of
green foam and glue those onto the spots where you can see the newspaper come
through. Take the tissue paper and just wrap the bottom of the cup to make it
look nice and gift ready! I heard from the children that the moms were all so
very happy with their flower pots!
Our next mother's day project was to make a greeting card to
go with the gift! I thought the coffee mug with the pretty spring flowers
coming out of it was a lovely idea for a greeting card and one that would suit
mother's day! I printed the template of the mug onto
construction paper and had the children color the flowers on a separate paper
onto the happy mother's day logo onto the front of the card. After all
the coloring they just had to cut everything and paste to make it look awesome! It came out to be such a cute little card!
Hope everyone can enjoy the pictures
attached and I hope you all enjoy the rest of this beautiful month.
