Cottonwood Creek

Happy Earth day to all!

For a couple of weeks now we have been working on decorating our room for earth day.  Like always when we celebrate a particular holiday or event we color pictures related to the event...really bring home the message...in this case Earth day. The main project that we have been working on was based primarily from watching the movie "Earth."  I thought it would be perfect since Earth day was just around the corner.  I watched the movie first and formulated a few questions that I could ask the children during the movie.  I explained to them what we were going to do and also explained that the person who got the most correct answers would get a little prize at the end of the movie.  It took us about three days to get through the whole movie because I was stopping it throughout so the children could have enough time to answer the questions I had for them and to take notes.  It was pretty time consuming but the children really got into it because we turned it into a little game.  At the end of the movie the children had about a full page of notes/questions answered.  Another benefit from turning this activity into a little game, is that some of the children learned how to take notes without thinking that it was work or thinking that it was boring.  After the movie I had them color an animal of their choosing that was featured in the movie and I had them add some fun facts they had noted on their notes page.  I hung up their awesome pictures on the wall of fame.  I am very proud of our children because they really made an effort and learned something new!  I just wanted to share this little activity with all of you and I hope you take a little time to enjoy and appreciate this beautiful planet.  I hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the week!
