Today we had our first banana split party. The kid's and I thought it was a good idea to celebrate 3 of the kid's birthday's by doing a banana split party. They enjoyed every bite of it. YUMMO!!! Everyone was excited to make their own, some never had a banana split and were happy to do there own here at PVII.

Hello Coordinators,
I was recently going through my thumb drive and I came across a few crafts I would like to share with all of you. These are items we can make ourselves for any of our projects or just for fun. Enjoy!

Sparkle Play dough
What you need:
- 1 C Flour
- 1 C Water
- 1/4 C Salt
- 1 TBSP Vegetable Oil
- 2 tsp Cream of Tartar
- Food Coloring (or if you want it to smell yummy, kool-aid)
- Glitter (the bigger flakes, the better and it makes it kids safe)
- pot/pan
& spatula
Instructions
- Add everything to the pot. Doesn’t matter what order.
- Stir, stir, stir. Until pretty smooth.
- You can either make one big batch of the same color, or separate it out before you add the food coloring.
- Add food coloring or kool-aid & stir well. – Hint – the Kool-Aid gives it a better smell rather than the food coloring.
- After the food coloring, add glitter. Add a decent amount.
- Your mixture should be pretty runny before you add to your pot.
- Heat the pot on MEDIUM & DO NOT STOP STIRRING once you pour in the mixture. This step went extremely fast for me–well under a minute, so stir & don’t let it stick to the bottom! This is the adult’s job to do btw.
- The mixture will get clumpy & start to change colors. This is normal. It will eventually all turn a slightly darker shade of the original mixture. I had the best luck flattening mine into a pancake-ish shape & flipping it over. When you think it’s done, remove from heat. I just scooped mine onto the counter.
- After it cooled a tad, I poked at it a little to be sure it was done. If it is a little too gooey, just put it back in the pot & cook a little longer.
- If it doesn’t need to go back onto the pan Presto you have play dough.
Make
Your Own Puff Paint
Things You’ll Need For each color of paint:
- ½ cup salt
- ½ cup flour
- ½ cup water
- Tempera Paint
- Bowl
- Funnel
- Spoon
- Squeeze bottle or sandwich bags
- Glitter (optional)
Instructions
- Mix the salt and flour (glitter as well) in a bowl until thoroughly combined.
- Pour the water into the flour mixture and stir until it's the consistency of pudding.
- Add Tempera paint, a few drops at a time. Stir well after every few drops. Add coloring until the paint has reached the color you desire.
- Place a small funnel in the squeeze bottle and spoon the paint mixture into the squeeze bottle. If you don't have a squeeze bottle, pour it into a sandwich bags and snip off a small corner.
- Squeezing the paint onto paper then allow the paintings to dry overnight.

Lincoln Plaza
As we know, Valentine’s Day is approaching and at Lincoln Plaza we are ready for it. I have shown my students a vast array of easy to make Valentine’s Day cards...many have actually thought about making them rather than buying them. After telling them a story about myself while growing up, going through tough times as does everyone and at the end of the day, after Valentine’s Day is over, the reality of how many of those cards were tossed vs. those that I actually kept. The truth of the matter is, I ended up throwing the majority of them away except a few from close friends. This has made everyone put 100% in finishing up the last of our cards and putting more thought into it along with creativity.
This week I showed my students how to make bouquets of kisses and hearts along with cupid’s wings. However, while surfing the web I came across this clothing line...I happen to know the guy who started it and after doing the lips bouquet, I have decided to add “Proper," which is the name of the brand, to this week’s crafts. Unfortunately I really want it to be a surprise for all the coordinators because whether we want to admit it or not, we all have 1920’s spirit in each of us. This week has also been a surprise to me because more and more kids from the Plaza are coming. I believe the creativity we have not only shown through our projects but through each individual, sharing what we can do here at the Plaza has enticed more kids to join in the fun. Even the older students, like our teens, are more involved and have backed away from the Facebook Drama!!! Very proud of my teens.
